AVG Configuration

Make sure your Grisoft AVG Antivirus is configured properly!

(If you don’t already have AVG Antivirus, download the Free Edition.)

1. Double click on the AVG icon on your desktop OR go to the START button in the lower left corner of you screen and click on START, Programs, AVG Antivirus, AVG for Windows.
Now click on Program in the upper left corner(1) then click on AVG Control Center(2).

2. In the next several steps just make sure your setting like just like these.

3. It is extremely important to make sure that there is a check next to “Use Outlook Express 5 Plugin” even if you don’t use Outlook Express!

5. Set the time for a time that you know you are commonly on the internet.  This setting tells AVG when to connect to the internet and look for updates. Typically there may be one or more updates a week. If you want to manually check for an update at anytime just click the Update Now! button.

6. Be sure that “Enable scheduled tests” is checked.  This will allow AVG to virus scan your computer.

7. You can check to make sure your Virus database is recent.  Look at the release date next to Virus Data Base.  It is important that this date stays current. The Program version can be several weeks old.  This is normal. Then click on “APPLY” and then click on “OK” when you are finished.

8. Make sure that the AVG System Status is Active and Functional and that the Database is up-to-date.  Now you should set the scheduler to scan your computer at a time that the computer is turned on.

9. I leave my computer on at night so scanning at 4:00am is good for me.  Your computer does not have to be connected to the internet at the time that it scans for viruses. Then click OK.

That’s it! You are done configuring your AVG Antivirus software.
