When you start the installation this is the first screen you will see. Just click Next.

To use default settings (which is how we install it on computers) simply click Unpack shown below.

There is nothing for you to do here. But this is the next screen you will see appear while the installation files are being unpacked.

Again, there is nothing to do here, this is simply the next screen you will see while it is preparing to install.

Click Next as shown below.

Click on I accept, then click on Next as shown below.

You may change this information shown below or leave it as whatever it comes up with. Click Next as shown below.

Click Next as shown below.

Be sure to put a check mark next to each item shown below. Click Next as shown below.

Click Install as shown below.

Click Finishe as shown below.

To open OpenOffice click on Start, Programs, OpenOffice.org 2.0 then choose the OpenOffice.org Writer (this is like MS Word).

This screen should only appear the first time you open the program. Click on Next.

Hit the Scroll Down button(1.) until it reaches the bottom. Then click on Accept (2.) after you have read the Agreement.

You may enter your First name, Last name, and Initials if you would like to. Then click on Next.

You may register your program if you want but it is not necessary. Then click on Finish (2.) Note: for this tutorial we assume you will not register so there will not be any tutorial on how to register.

Click on View at the top, then click on Zoom...

|

Click on Page Width. This will make the sheet that you are working on stretch to the size of your screen so you will not have to scroll left and right to see your whole document.

Now click on Tools at the top. Then click on Options.

This is where you are going to set OpenOffice to read and write Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Click on Load/Save then General

Select the Document type as Text document (shown below) then select the Always save as to Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (but do not select the one that says template).

Then select Document type as Spreadsheet then select Always save as to Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (but not template)

Then select Document type as Presentation then select Always save as to Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (but not template) Then click on OK.
Then Click on OK and you are ready to start using your OpenOffice.org 2.0 completely configured.
The configuration shown above is not necessary but if you are use to MS Office, and would like to share files with others that use MS Office, this will make it easier.
